Measuring five by seven feet, Destiny is the largest painting J Douglas has created to date. The monumental equestrian work was created at the request of Sheila Johnson and has hung prominently at Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Virginia, since 2015.

Over the years, Destiny has become part of the visual identity of the resort. Its commanding scale and powerful depiction of the horse have made it a memorable presence for guests, collectors and visitors from around the world. The painting has also appeared in numerous magazine articles and editorial features connected with J’s work and Salamander.

Ms. Johnson has called Destiny one of her favorite paintings. Although many visitors naturally assume that such a prominent and long-established work belongs permanently to the resort, there is a little-known detail: the original painting remains available for purchase.
